- [Music] we're very pleased to have collaborated with the Africa cluster center that is housed in our Institute of African diaspora studies um and the work great work they have been doing in the last six years the university management recognizes the impact that they have had not only on uh on building capacity but also in the internationalization agenda of the University of Lagos they have had numerous workshops capacity building conferences and so on and we are very happy to have been a part of this they are an invaluable organization within our University we hope that when the cluster 2.0 Vision becomes a reality that University of Lagos will be a part of it and we look forward to working even more with them to achieve their reality about 6 years ago we started the Journey of reconfiguring African studies along with our partner in barro Moy Joseph kbo and Road University in South Africa it's been five years 6 years of hard work and Cutting Edge research over the last 6 years or so we have found that it's important to have not out engagement and collaboration we have engaged in numerous Cutting Edge research that many people have thought that was impossible collaboration with our colleagues all over the world through the instrumentalities of the DFG funding and working together in Synergy with our colleagues on the continent of Africa as showed clearly that African research can also be as important as any other research we have since discovered in the last 5 six years that working with Partners working with colleagues and collaborating with them in terms of research Fellowship schemes and a whole lot of other things that we have been able to do in the last 5 six years indicate the fact that the configuring of African studies is essential to scholarship we are going to have to see in the last in the next few years where this takes us what do we do after the last 5 years of intense research how do we engage further how do we allow the ideas of Multiplicity reflexivity and relationality take complete domination of the kind of research we do I'm going to allow us in this short presentation listen to what pis have said about their engagement in the last six years with colleagues from everywhere the African multiple Center of Excellence has provided African Scholars especially in the humanities a unique opportunity to relate more with their counterparts in the global North on the one hand and for those in global South among themselves and achievement their promises to At Last the gr a research outcome should have an empirical and uh strong impact on populations and that is actually what we are having since the Inception of the cluster uh Center of Excellence more essentially with the newly created centers that are Legos over gadu roads and mo research researchers from all over these areas are actually cross fertilizing relating and developing some new insight into research that has brought more hope to African people one thing I found particularly empowering was the opportunity to co-edit a book with um colleagues from the other four centers and it was a time of you know communion it was a time of learning and it was a time of really learning about the exciting work that is going on across the five um cluster centers and so even though Co denied us the opportunity to interact in person that project allowed us to continue to interact to engage um intellectually and to have really stimulating conversations and we're very proud I was very proud when the two volumes were eventually published with the Africa cluster Center and the focus on knowes as a research section we have been able to interrogate the EA System and bring out from it the knowledge that it contains and such knowledge includes philosophy uh it also includes social and political thoughts of the African people that are not necessarily resident in Africa but also uh that do have Universal values so in terms of real documentable impact I can say that my research has been able to in a way bring some changes to the curriculum of English studies you know and of course in terms of extensive networking relationship with Africans both in the continent on the continent and in the diaspora so the association and the interdisciplinary perspective and collaboration that it has provided has enabled research work for me as a philosopher to be richer more impactful and also amenable to African Scholars who want to hear the truth about the continent another exciting thing about this program is opportunity to go around as fellow I've been to byro I was one of the first people in byro I've been to University of Roads I've been to moy University and of course I've done research in wagadu this has expanded Horizon and it has expanded possibility for collaboration that's the beauty of this cluster system and the African cluster Center the Africa multiple cluster system has enabled the unilag African cluster Center to be able to provide the much needed support to early career Scholars through programs such as the postgraduate conference fully funded PHD programs grants to attend conferences um thesis completion grants um engagement of early career Scholars as research assistance on uh cluster funded projects as well as Center funded projects as well as the postto fellowships I'm here as a visiting research fellow Cy of the collaboration that exists between Mo University ACC and University of Lagos sec I got a six month postdoctoral Fellowship to come and do my research on the policy impact of women in the Lego State House of Assembly and this resarch chch has opened my mind up has opened many opportunities for me I have been able to work under seasoned pis I have been able to forge collaborations and Forge networks with other researchers both within uh Nigeria and even outside Nigeria so being a student at The Institute has been a very rich and fulfilling experience um I think we're are privy to having Scholars from all over the world especially because of the cluster we frequently have visitors from K from bies in Germany from South Africa and it allows you to learn about different cultural context to benefit from Scholars who know a bit about your work but can add to it in different ways we have moved further from where we started we have we can say that the Lagos ACC gender and diversity office has been able to influence the research to take deeper look at the gender concerns the researches from the African multiple has been very groundbreaking and has allowed us to tell our story better um especially in the world as it is changing and with our continent so young it is very clear that Africa will be a major player in the future and it is important we know where we're coming from and we start to explore the indigenous knowledge they Africa multiple have done quite a lot in this direction and in addition to what they've done they've really shown light on it and have helped to inspire others to go into this area and actually start to interrogate our past interrogate what we're doing so that the future can really benefit from the African continent we are very happy to be collaborating with the Africa cluster within the University of Lagos as as well as the African multiple in in general uh we hope that they they will be part of the cluster 2.0 because I do believe their work is unfinished and it will be a loss to humanity if it isn't one common denominator denominator we have found from the opinion expressed by pis in Lagos is that the last 5 years have revealed to us how significant it is to have north south collaboration how the centers in Africa the four centers in Africa have collaborated how we have expanded the scope of scholarship to include fellowships that now bring African Scholars together there are too many things to say that this short documentary will not be able to address but one thing is very important to everyone that the African multiple cluster of excellence in African studies has been a very important factor in expanding and in in creating the possibilities of cutting edges [Music]
